Mary Gillis Educational Scholarship

This scholarship is made in memory of Mary Gillis, who devoted her life to teaching English to the students of Canton High School and then Pisgah High School. The members of Canton Presbyterian Church make this $750 scholarship possible where Ms. Gillis was a life-long member. It is our goal to encourage and support the students of Haywood County just as Ms. Gillis did.

Eligibility Requirements
• Graduating Senior from Pisgah High School (consideration will be given to a recipient student to re-apply after his/her freshman year of college)
• Preference will be given to students planning on majoring in education
• Must attend an accredited community/technical college or university
• Financial Need
• Grade Point Average

PROCESS
The Mary Gillis Scholarship selection committee shall be appointed by the Foundation President and Executive Director. This committee shall consist of four members to include: two Canton Presbyterian Church members and two Pisgah High faculty or staff members. All applications will be reviewed and the scholarship selection committee will make a recommendation for the recipient of the scholarship. The selection process shall consist of a review and evaluation of the scholarship application and possibly a personal interview. The Board of Directors of the Foundation will make the final decision on the recipient of this scholarship. The Board’s decision shall be final. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable foundation, will administer the scholarship fund.

PAYMENTS OF AWARDS
Payment of scholarship awards will be made at the beginning of the school year. Checks will be made payable to the school for student’s account and will be forwarded to the financial aid office.
