James and Betty Scott Memorial

The James and Betty Scott Memorial Scholarship has been established in memorial of the late Mr. and Mrs. Scott as a means of assisting graduating seniors at Tuscola High School who have a high degree of need coupled with a serious commitment to achieve a college education. The Scott Scholarship is up to a $10,000 award renewable for four years, for a total of $40,000. This scholarship award may be renewed annually contingent upon funds available, the student’s G.P.A. (2.5 minimum) and continued financial need.

• Graduating Senior from Tuscola High School
• Academic Excellence
• Financial Need
• Commitment to community service
• Participation in extracurricular activities
• Character/ Leadership qualities
• Potential for success in college

PROCESS
The James and Betty Scott Scholarship selection committee shall be appointed by the Foundation President and Executive Director. This committee shall consist of seven members to include: four from the Foundation and three from the community. All applications will be reviewed and finalists will be chosen. A personal interview will be held with all the finalists. The committee will make a recommendation for the recipient of the scholarship. The Board of Directors of the Foundation will make the final decision on the recipient of this scholarship. The Board’s decision shall be final. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable foundation, will administer the scholarship fund.

PAYMENT OF AWARDS
Payment of scholarship awards will be made at the beginning of the school year or at the beginning of each semester. Checks will be made payable to the school for student’s account and will be forwarded to the financial aid office. A copy of the previous semester grades is required to be submitted to the Foundation before further payment will occur.
