The Elayne Tucker Wadsworth Memorial Scholarship Fund was established with the Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc. to memorialize Elayne’s valiant fight against Cancer. Elayne passed away in 2014 at the age of 61. Elayne was a special person who committed her life to truly caring about and helping everyone she met. She was a loving wife and mother, always putting her faith, family and friends above all else. This was evident from the love and care she put into every relationship she made in her life. As a realtor and as owner of Curves for Women, Elayne cherished relationships first, before helping her friends buy a house or reach their personal fitness goals. She was very much like her father having, “never met a stranger”. People always said that she could find out a person’s life story, while standing in the checkout line at the grocery store.
Once Elayne became a grandmother she was forever known as “Nana”. Her pride and joy were her seven grandchildren. Elayne wanted to leave her grandchildren with memories of family gatherings, laughter, unconditional love, and a timeless bit of advice “Don’t count the days, make the days count”.
The Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established by her family and will be administered by the Haywood Schools Foundation, Inc. This Scholarship is available to all high school seniors at Tuscola High School. Scholarship amount based on available funds.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• Haywood County Resident
• Graduating High School Senior from Tuscola High School
• The student needs to have been touched in some way by cancer
• A 500 word essay has to be written to describe how the person he/she knew that had cancer touched his/her life
SELECTION PROCESS AND AWARD
A selection committee will make a recommendation for the recipient of the scholarships. The selection process shall consist of a review and evaluation of the scholarship applications. The Board of Directors of the Foundation will make the final decision on the recipient of this scholarship. The Board’s decision shall be final. The Haywood County Schools Foundation, Inc., a tax-exempt charitable foundation, will administer the scholarship fund.
